On Monday October 16th, Cadet Fortin visited McConnell Air Force Base alongside 6 of her fellow cadets. Cadet Fortin is an AS250 or a first-year sophomore in the program, from Denver, Colorado. She is studying criminology and criminal justice at UNL. There are lots of opportunities within the Detachment to visit bases, incentive flights, static tours and so much more. These opportunities give cadets the opportunity to see what life in “The big Air Force” looks like along with emerging cadets in all of the different possible AFSCs available.
Through the tour, cadets were able to visit a static KC-135 Stratotanker and a KC-46 Pegasus. Cadets followed a static tour through the aircraft while also having the opportunity to talk to pilots and crew of the aircraft. Cadets then went on a flight simulation where they were able to test their pilot skills on a KC-46 Pegasus. Cadet Fortin completed her first flight simulation while on base! They were also able to try on chemical gear, which was a highlight in the trip for Cadet Fortin. To wrap up the day they watched the dog trainers along with a discussion with the 344th Refueling Squadron. McConnell is a refueling base, which allowed the cadets to learn more about the mechanical side of flying and what goes on behind the scenes.
